Amuthakkannan Rajakannu

Overview

Dr. Rajakannu Amuthakkannan obtained his PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering (with Software Based Mechatronics System specialization) from the reputed Technological University named as Anna University Chennai, India in 2008. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Mechatronics from the top grade institute, Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University, Chennai in 2001. He received his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 from Bharathidasan University, Trichy, India. He also has obtained a Management degree MBA specialized in systems from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India in 2002.Following his academic qualification, he holds totally 24 years of experience inclusive of 2 years of work experience in industry as quality control engineer. After his service in industry, he moved to academics where he holds 22 years of work experience as academician. He holds his specializations in Mechatronics, Real Time Systems, Solar Systems, Software Quality, Software Reliability, Mechatronics System Design and its Reliability Assessment and Virtual Instrumentation. Currently he is working as Associate Professor at National University of Science and Technology, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

As a Technology transfer, he has obtained Young Scientist Award for the year 2008-2009 from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, India. He also obtained the prestigious IEI Young Engineer Award for the year 2009-2010 from Institution of Engineers, India. He received an appreciation certificate for his excellent research work on Portable crusher grinding machine for Granite waste from His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al suniadi,, Minister of commerce and Industry, Sultanate of Oman and also from Dr. P. Mohammed Ali, Founder and Chairman, Galfar Engineering and Contracting company, Oman.   Dr.R.Amuthakkannan has contributed vividly both to industry and academics. His contribution includes 79 Publications in National Journals, International Journals and Conference level. He had organized two conferences (One conference was collaboration with University Massachusetts, USA and Inderscience publications) and conducted many workshops and seminars. He is the Editor for 6 conference proceedings. He has completed the funded project for US$ 82500 (Omani Rial 32950/-) titled “Design and Development of Portable crusher grinding machine for granite and marble waste “sponsored by Industrial Innovation Centre, Muscat, Oman. He received fund of US$40,000(Rs.16 lakhs) from All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE, India) in Research Promotion Scheme (RPS)to enhance his research work in software based Mechatronics system and received  US$17,500/- (Approx.Rs.7 Lakhs) from National Instruments (Pvt) Ltd., Bangalore for his contribution in Virtual Instrumentation. He has also received 2400 Omani Rial (Approx. US$ 6500) financial support from TRC, Oman in FURAP Scheme to develop a solar cooking system at Caledonian College of Engineering, Muscat. He has written a book titled ‘Mechatronics ‘in ARS publications, Chennai, India. He is the Shell Eco Marathon staff coordinator for National University, Muscat Team in which his team has participated 5 times in international Event (Manila, Kualalumpur and Chennai) and received approximately US$ 1lakh as sponsorship to develop Eco friendly Energy efficient car. He is the in charge for professional society of ASME at National University, Muscat. He is the University council Member at National University, Oman and also served as Academic council member, Strategic plan council member and Board of study member in various colleges. He has developed many new laboratories related to Mechatronics and Virtual Instrumentation. .  He has delivered many Guest Lectures in the modern concepts of Mechatronics System Design, Artificial Intelligence, Battery Electric vehicle, Industry 4.0 etc all over the world.
