Dr. Shama Parveen stands as a leading figure in the fight against human viruses. With over 15 years of experience in research and teaching, she has dedicated her career to understanding the complexities of viral diseases like SARS-CoV-2, Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, Hepatitis E, and Respiratory Syncytial Viruses.
Her research focuses on the molecular biology of these viruses, investigating their local and global evolutionary dynamics, and exploring the expression, purification, and characterization of different viral proteins. Dr Parveens passion extends beyond research to the realm of education.
As an Associate Professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia has guided and nurtured countless students, fostering their interest in virology and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to this critical field. Her mentorship has seen her guide 7 PhD and 6 M.Phil. students to successful graduations, with 5 more Ph.D. students currently under her supervision.
Dr. Parveens research has garnered international recognition and funding from esteemed agencies like DBT, DST, CSIR, UGC, and CCRUM, totalling over 1.608 crores in INR. Her research group has published an impressive 90 articles, including 81 research papers, 9 reviews, 1 book on COVID-19, and 1 book chapter. These publications have garnered 2597 citations in Google Scholar, with an h index of 22 and an i10 index of 30, demonstrating the significant impact of her work.
Dr. Parveens expertise has been crucial in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Her research group has published multiple articles on the virus, including a review article in Virus Disease, a research article on Coronaviruses, and an article in *TerraGreen* magazine. Additionally, she compiled and edited the book The COVID-19 Pandemic: Epidemiology, Molecular Biology and Therapy, published in 2021 by Bentham Science Publishers, providing a comprehensive resource for understanding the virus and its implications.
