Ms. V.K Padmavathamma

Overview

V.K. Padmavathamma is an educationist who has transformed many lives by extending a helping hand to those in need and giving moral and emotional support to many who have no one else to lean on to. She is an inspiration to many around her and a mother to everyone.

V.K. Padmavathamma is born in the year 1954 in a small village Jumbuladinne in Ananthapur district. She was raised by her parents M. Nagi Reddy and M. VenkataLakshmamma. It was not so common for girls to go for higher studies in those days, but seeing her interest in studies they encouraged her to go for higher studies.

She was married to V.K. Sudhir Reddy in 1972 while she was pursuing her graduation. Her ambition to study further was supported by her husband and she completed her M.A and M.Phil in Telugu literature from S.V. University. She also joined P.Hd and started her research on Mahakavi Sri Sri’s Mahaprasthanam. She actively worked with Sri Sri garu for her research which unfortunately she could not complete. She is a voracious reader and excellent public speaker and enjoys reading and learning new things even at this age. She taught herself Microsoft excel a few years ago.

She worked as a Telugu teacher in Good Shepard English medium school for ten years and has influenced many students. She has injected love for Telugu language and literature in all her students.The way she sings the Telugu poems is a sweet memory for all her students and she is dearly remembered as “Padma teacher”. In the year 2000, she along with her husband established an engineering college “GATES Institute of Technology “ in Gooty to bring technical education to the doorsteps of the rural and drought-prone area of Rayalaseema.

She acted as a director for 15 years and is running the institution as a Correspondent since 2017. She is an excellent administrator who get everything rolling in place without using harsh words. She is loved and respected as a mother both by the employees and the students.

Not just running an institution with more than 2400 students and administering nearly 200 faculty members she also runs two hostels for boys and girls with nearly 700 students. She personally makes sure that the food served to the students is of good quality and nutritious. The employees in these hostels are mainly single women who need support to run their families. Ms. Padmavathamma extends help to those ladies by hiring them, providing for their kids education, supporting for their marriages,and all their other needs. Nearly 40 such women who are financially or family distressed are hired by her and helped them to be independent.

She, like an old-generation doctor who likes to feel the pulse of each patient, meets each and every student and their parents. Ms.Padmavathamma madam is an active member of many social and philanthropic organizations. She is a life member for Guild Of service school society which aims at providing free education to girls. She is a member of Jana Vignana Vedika and also acted as a vice president for that organization which works for creating awareness on science and eradicating superstitions. She is an active member in Anantapur Ladies club and served the club in various roles. She is a member of the senior citizens club in Gooty.

Ms.Padmavathamma is known for her philanthropy. Whenever there is a need for any help to conduct any activity in Gooty, Guntakal region, people look towards her. She along with her late husband cleared the tanks (Cheruvulu) and dug more than 100 borewells for drinking water in the villages around Gooty.

They have conducted numerous eye camps and medical camps in their college for the people nearby. They have distributed books and uniforms to the school students. Padmavathi madam every year contributes to’ yeddula pandelu ‘to bring the villages and villagers together and to encourage the continuation of our culture. She extends her continuous support to organizations like Raids( an organization for orphan kids of AIDS patients), and another orphanage Sweet Saviors in Gooty.

She provides food for pregnant women in Gooty govt hospital and for farmers who come from outside town to collect seeds and fertilizers. Her services during Covid time are laudable.It is suffice to say that Padmavathamma madam is an excellent human being who selflessly and relentlessly works for the betterment of the people and society around her. The students trained by people like her are definitely going to transform the world into a better place.
